Acquisition
The Smithsonian American
Art Museums in Washington have acquired a second sculpture
by Jackie’s mother, 92-year-old ceramic artist Sylvia
Hyman. “Bookmobile,” right, was donated to the museum by
Morgan Keegan & Co., Inc. This full-size trompe l’oeil
(fool the eye) piece is made of porcelain and stoneware.
A film about Sylvia by
Curt Hahn will be shown at the da Vinci Film Festival in
Corvallis, Oregon, which runs March 12-14. “Sylvia Hyman:
Eternal Wonder” is available on DVD.
It can
be ordered here.
At lower right is
Sylvia’s "Books By Our Daughters." Along with two of Jackie's
novels, it depicts books by Jackie's
stepsister, the late Lynne Gunzberg, and Julia Moberg, whose mother,
Cathy Moberg, works with Sylvia. Mixed-media artist Timothy
Weber is also a member
of Sylvia's staff.
